Boscombe Pier Session
June 24, 2011

Boscombe Pier – Slackline Demo / Workshop
The Active Dorset event was set up by Bournemouth Council for schools to introduce their pupils to sports like slacklining, beach volleyball, surfing/paddleboarding, surf lifesaving, tennis, rounders, kwik cricket and beach football.
“On Seafront Business”
Ian and I arrived at the pier for 8:30am, off-loaded the gear and slapped the parking permit on before heading back to get digging. Two shovels, two slackline addicts and an hour or so later, we’ve set up two slacklines from the shore heading out towards the sea.
There was a constant flow of schoolchildren and the public throughout the day, with most stopping to watch and ask a few questions. After being reassured that Ian and I had to start with the basics too and yes we can teach them, they got up and got involved.
More and more people began joining the ever-growing community of Slackers in the UK; several local Slackers joined us on the beach and got in on the session. It was so good to see their energy and drive to become better at this sport, which made it a real pleasure to spend my time showing them tricks and teaching them how to do it.
It never ceases to amaze me how quickly people take to the sport and how they progress! I love it!
My nose, and the rest of me for that matter, got roasted in the pristine sunshine and blue skies over the day. After we’d packed up the beach was tranquil once more, calm and looking a little bare with the lines gone.
‘Till next time Boscombe…next time.
