BBC Wordwide – Year of Adventures – Slackline –

Maverick Slacklines had an awesome time down on the beach with Ben Fogle and Kate Humble, filming for the new BBC series, ‘A Year of Adventures’. Ben and Kate were set to go climbing in Moab, Utah so as part of the preparation for this, they came over to spend a day slacklining with the Maverick crew. We had the task of training Ben and Kate to take their first steps on the slackline, and if they were up for it, attempt a waterline which we had setup down by the river.

We chose Sandbanks as the training venue because it has the first dedicated, public slackline area and it is literally right on the beach. Sandbanks is a favourite haunt of the Maverick faithful and is the perfect spot to try out new combos as the beach is like a huge crash mat!

Ben and Kate spent the whole morning training with us and both loved it. At first Ben couldn’t believe how much harder it was than he’d thought. However, with some good trainers at hand both he and Kate really stepped up and pretty much got the hang of it by the end of the session. It was great to see how much they had progressed in the short time they spent with us. I think that is part of the appeal of this sport, you always feel like you are progressing. Maybe it is part of the reason why slacklining is so addictive.

As the sun was out and the wind had dropped, we ended the day with a trip over to a waterline we had scoped out. The BBC had asked us to setup the waterline so one of the Maverick riders could attempt something more difficult for the programme. Jake, fresh from victory at the Slackline Champs, stepped up and sent the line perfectly. Well done, mate!

Cheers to the BBC, Ben & Kate. We had a great day with you guys. We’ll keep you posted when the programmes is set to be aired.

I believe that people who can keep balance on the line and ready to take risks are more balanced people in daily life, more creative and daring. Keep on your sport, keep the art and keep documenting it. I more than liked it. ❤
